Back of the Book

The meditation upon the limbs of Lord Krsna's transcendental body are spoken by Manjuvak and Kalokti, the pet male and female parrots of Vrnda-devi.

"The male parrot sang, 'The glorification of Lord Krsna, the Supreme personality of Godhead, is beneficial to everyone in the universe. His beauty is victorious over the gopis of Vrndavana, and it subdues their patience. His pastimes astound the goddess of fortune, and His bodily strength turns Govardhana Hill into a small toy like a ball. His spotless qualities are unlimted, and His behavior satisfies everyone. Lord Krsna is attractive to everyone. Oh, may our Lord maintain the whole universe!"

"After hearing this description of Lord Krsna from the male parrot, the female parrot began to recite a description of Srimati Radharani."

The female parrot said, "Srimati Radharani's affection, Her exquisite beauty and good behavior, Her artistic dancing and changing and Her poetic compositions are all so attractive that they attract the mind of Krsna, who attracts the mind of everyone in the universe."

Introduction

Sri Suka-sari-stava by Srila Krsnadasa Kaviraja Gosvami provides us with a detailed and poetic meditation upon the limbs of the transcendental body of Lord Krnsa. In a purport of Srimad Bhagavatam, Srila Prabhupada describes meditation upon the bodily limbs of the Lord:

"The Visnu forms of worship in great temple of India are not arrangements of idol worship, as they are wrongly interpreted to be by a class of men with a poor fund of knowledge; rather, they are different spiritual centers of meditation on the transcendental limbs of the body of Visnu. The worshipable Deity in the temple of Visnu is identical with Lord Visnu by the inconceivable potency of the Lord. Therefore, a neophyte's concentration or meditation upon the limbs of Visnu in the temple, as contemplated in the revealed scriptures, is an easy opportunity for meditation for persons who are unable to sit down tightly at one place and then concentrate upon pranava omkara or the limbs of the body of Visnu, as recommended herein by Sukadeva Gosvami, the great authority.

In this short work, the meditation upon the limbs of Lord Krsna's transcendental body are spoken by Manjuvak and Kalokti, the pet male and female parrots of Vrnda-devi. In Sri Caitanya-caritamrta, Madhya-lila, Seventeenth Chapter, there is a description of a male and female parrot glorifying Lord Krsna for the pleasure of Lord Caitanya as He traveled through the Jharikhanda forest on His way to Vrndavana, along with a brahmana named Balabhadra Bhattacarya:

"When a male and female parrot appeared on the branches of a tree, the Lord saw them and wanted to hear them speak. Both parrots flew onto the hand of the Lord and began to chant the transcendental qualities of Krsna, and the Lord listened to them."

His spotless qualities are unlimited, and His behavior satisfies everyone. Lord Krsna is attractive to everyone. Oh, may our Lord maintain the whole universe!"

"After hearing this description of Lord Krsna from the male parrot, the female parrot began to recite a description of Srimati Radharani. The female parrot said, 'Srimati Radharani's affection, Her exquisite beauty and good behavior, Her artistic dancing and chanting and Her poetic compositions are all so attractive that they attract the mind of Krsna, who attracts the mind of everyone in the universe."

"Thereafter the male parrot said, 'Krsna is the enchanter of the mind of Cupid.' He then began to recite another verse. The male parrot then said, 'My dear sari [female farrot], Sri Krsna carries a flute and enchants the hearts of all women throughout the universe. He is specifically the enjoyer of the beautiful gopis, and He is the enchanter of Cupid also. Let Him be glorified!"

"Then the female parrot began to speak jokingly to the male parrot, and Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu was struck with wonderful ecstatic love to hear her speak. The female parrot said, 'When Lord Sri Krsna is with Radharani, He is the enchanter of Cupid; otherwise, when He is alone, He himself is enchanter by erotic feelings even though He enchants the whole universe.' Both parrots then flew into a tree branch, and Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu began to watch the dancing of the peacocks with curiosity."

As would be expected, Kusakratha dasa has done a wonderful and very poetic translation of this short yet exquisite book, which will certainly provide great pleasure to all those devotees who read it.
