Book Description

About the Author

H Kumar Vyas has had a long and fruitful association with the National Institute of Design (NID) spanning a period of thirty years. He had his early training as an industrial designer at the Central School of Art and Design, in Britain, where he subsequently worked as a professional designer for over five years. Prof. Vyas joined the NID in 1962 to start its Faculty of Industrial Design and to commence programmes directed towards training the first cadre of Indian Industrial designers.

Since 1977 Prof. Vyas has been actively engaged in acquainting those he terms as 'non-designers' with the concepts of design and design thinking. The Training Kit Design and Environment specially prepared for this purpose comprises an introductory manual and a series of short films which incidentally have been telecast on the National Educational Programme.

The last position Prof. Vyas held at the NID was as Professor, Design Research Chair. The present book is the outcome of one of the projects completed during this period.
