Book Description
Preface

The cabinet of the Hyderabad Museum has got a large collection of the coins representing the chronology of the Indian history with the representation of the South Indian coins from the Punch-Marked, Satavahana down to the Asaf Jahi dynasty that swayed over the Deccan. Some of the important coins havebeen described in the Annual Reports of the Archaeological department by Dr. G. Yazdani, and Mr. Khwaja Muhmmad Ahmad from time to time. After the issue of annual reports ceased to come out, the Department issued the Numismatic Series whenever any important discovery brought to light in the field of Numismatics. Thus we brought out nine Numismatic Series till 1954 written by many distinguished scholars in the field of Numismatics. Later on an important leap in this regard was taken up by the then Director- Sri N. Ramesan when he planned to bring out the chronological series of Numismatic catalogues on scienti- fic lines. We are proud to say now that we brought out three Numismatic Series in the year 1960-61 i. e. the catalogue of Punch-Marked coins by Dr. Paremeshwari lal Gupta, catalogue of Satavahana coins by Dr. M. Rama Rao and a catalogue of Qutb Shahi coins by myself. This year we brought out six catalogues on Ikshvaku coins by Dr. Subrhmanyam, catalogue of Punch-Marked coins by Dr.Parameshwari- lal Gupta, catalogue of Vijayanagar coins by Sri N. Ramesan, catalogue of Eastern Chalukyan coins by Dr. M. Rama Rao, catalogue of Western Ksatrapas by Dr. H. V. Trivedi and a catalogue of Bahmani coins.
