Book Description
From the Jacket

Between Ethnography and Fiction brings together essays by sixteen scholars of various disciplines to re-examine the work of Verrier Elwin in the fields of tribal literature, tribe and non-tribal literature, relationship, tribal development policies, missionaries and conversion, myths and legends, art and craft, etc. Elwin is undoubtedly one of the most controversial as well as influential anthropologists of the twentieth century. The essays included here are therefore both appreciative and critical.

Dr. T. B. Subba is Professor and Head, Department of Anthropology, North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong. He has published extensively on the eastern Himalayas and North-East India on aspects of ethnicity, development, nationalism and diaspora. He is also the editor of the NEHU Journal and is on the editorial boards of several national and international journals in anthropology and related disciplines.

Dr. Sujit Som retired as Director-in-Charge of the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya, Bhopal. He has actively promoted anthropological and folkloristic research in India and contributed significantly to the development of museums in the country. He has co-edited several books in the fields of museology, anthropology and folklore. He is also associated with the Bhimbetka World Rock Art Heritage and the Majuli World Heritage Site.
