In this book, Dr. Arya describes how the pure tradition of Super conscious Meditation can inspire and awaken the sincere and prepared student and guide him or her to the ultimate goal of Self-awareness. Personally trained in this tradition, which stems from an unbroken line of gurus from ancient times until the present, Dr. Arya is well-qualified to clarify points students often encounter in practicing meditation. He offers specific techniques that students can employ to deepen their meditative experience.
Dr. Pandit Usharbudh Arya was born in 1933 in Dehradun, India, in a Sanskrit-speaking family. At the age of eleven he expounded the Vedas and Upanishads to crowds of thousands, and taught many learned people at that young age. Since then he has maintained worldwide spiritual missions, traveling continuously through many countries. Although he holds B.A. (London), M.A. (London), and D.Litt. (Holland) degrees and several academic honors, he has given himself to the task of teaching meditation and spiritual philosophies of life under the guidance of his Gurudev, H. H. Swami Rama of the Himalayas. He was also head of the Department of Philosophy of the Eastern Studies Program of the Himalayan Institute of the U.S.A. His main spiritual centers are the Meditation Center, in Minneapolis, and his (Gurudev's) ashram in Rishikesh, India.
A prolific writer and speaker, he is the author of numerous books and articles, including Superconscious Meditation, Mantra and Meditation, God, Meditation and the Art of Dying, Love Is a Marriage, and a 600-page commentary on the first chapter of the Yoga-Sutras of Patanjali. There are also his 2,000 hours of recorded cassette courses on all aspects of the practices and philosophies of meditation.
