Taj Mahal and Agra

Agra ensconced besides the Yamuna river and situated more than two hundred kilometers to the South of Delhi, shot into prominence when an Afghan ruler decided to make it his capital city. What followed was a glorious era of immense wealth, unparalleled enterprise and artistic talent in a period stretching over 100 years from the reign of Babur to that of Shah Jahan

Beginning from the prominent ones like Ram Bagh, Agra Fort, Sikandra, Itmad-ud-Daulah, Fatehpur Sikri and finally the incomparable Taj Mahal, the edifices which the Mughal monarchs left behind, comprise a rich tapestry of superb architectural forms.

About the Author

Born and brought up in Dehradun, Rupinder Khullar has been shooting pictures since he was a child. Enthusiastically accompanying his father, a hobbyist photographer, to the Garhwal Himalayas. A prominent travel photographer for more than three decades, Rupinder has done a variety of pictorial books on India, its cities, monuments architecture, art and religion. Among them the 501 images of Taj Mahal, India land of Celebration, India; the land of the Buddha, One day at the Golden Temple and Delhi, Agra and Jaipur have been widely appreciated.

His wife Reeta has been actively involved in all his books, besides authoring a few of them. She has contributed articles and photo features on travel to various publications. She holds a masters Degree in English Literature from the Delhi University and a Diploma in Journalism from the Indian Institute of Mass Communication.
