Book Description
Preface

Uttara Kaalamritam, (UK) significantly dealing with peculiar areas of Vedic Jyotisha, is attributed to Kaalidas. It was first printed in Telugu script. On the basis of the Telugu edition, it's Hindi and English translations were consecutively printed in the northern India in the seventh decade of the Christian era. And this publication from Delhi, for the first time, introduced the North-Indian people with the classic. For sake of mere publicity of the work, it was claimed to be written by great Kaalidas, the poet of poets, whose elegance of picturesque poetry is witnessed in his timeless epics and dramas, e.g., Abhijnanshakuntalm, Raghuvamsha, Kumarsambhavam, etc. But the language of the UK, prima facie, exhibits weakness of the compiler whose major part credits to the people involved in transcription of the text. For an instance, in Kanda 2, Shloka 44, the text reads: 'Anuradhabhe'i.e., Anuradha nakshatra on the Ratha Saptami (Magha Shukla 7), but it is next to impossible. So we corrected the text 'Anuradhaye', i.e., for well-being.
