About the CD

K.S. Gopalakrishnan has selected a very powerful composition of Dikshitar in Sree ragam as his first item in this recording. This popular krithi has been rendered with heartfelt devotion to the goddess Varalakshmi. The composition of the Saint Thyagaraja in Ragam Harikamboji has been given an elaborated treatment by the artiste thus enhancing the deep sense of passion already existing in the composition. He pays a tribute to the great composer Maharaja Swathi Thirunal in his rendering of “Gopalaka Pahimam” in Revagupthi ragam reflecting a certain introspection. He is in elements in the rendering of the yoga alapana in Ragam Kappi. It reveals great technique and exquisite balance of presentation. The Ahir Bhairav ragam piece is on a long bamboo flute and reveal his expertise and sensitiveness.
