Roshni Jashnani's Acrylic on Canvas painting titled, Face Mask of Kathakali, is a tribute to the traditional dance form which is also an identity of Kerala, God's own country. The dance form originated in Natya Sashtras and developed around the 17th century. Bharata Muni wrote one of the oldest Sanskrit scriptures, the Natya Shastras. The Natya Shastras were compiled between 200 BCE and 200 CE. Although the origins of Kathakali are unknown, it is thought to have been performed in coastal Kerala between the 16th and 17th centuries.

The painting encapsulates the elaborate and dramatic facial expressions intrinsic to Kathakali dance. The artist skillfully captures the intricate details of the traditional Kathakali mask, portraying heightened emotions and cultural nuances. The use of acrylic paints adds a vivid and dynamic quality to the canvas, reflecting the essence of this classical dance form. Jashnani's work not only pays homage to the artistic heritage of Kathakali but also serves as a visual testament to the expressive richness of Indian cultural traditions.
