Description

Women have had a long-standing relationship with music. Being able to play a musical instrument is one of the attributes of a perfect woman. Women belonging to the royalty and those from the upper class households were taught the art from childhood.

Woman, of elegant pose, sits with the veena across her lap, looking straight into the viewer's eyes. If there is directness in her gaze, there is seductive appeal in the twitch of her lips; the long straight nose adds to the perfection of the facial features. She wears a golden yellow saree, with a similar blouse. Her well-set hair is partially covered by the end of the saree. Golden beads are strung together for the bracelets and pearls for the neck and ears. Thin, long fingers if needed more adornment, have well crafted rings in them. They play deftly on the strings of the veena.

The foreground is also golden yellow with a random incense holder spreading its fragrance and some scattered leaves and flowers. Between the two pillars in the background is a painted glass door, against which the demure lady sits.
