Description

Ganesha is the god loved by astronomers, writers and painters alike. They have never ceased to celebrate him, in epic or mythological recitations, which vibrate the heart of all.

Ganesha's two consorts are Buddhi and Siddhi, the two beautiful daughters of Brahma. Buddhi leads to union with the lord who is beyond all type of illusions and Siddhi represents ‘yogic achievement’. In this miniature, Ganesha with a glowing body is seated on a throne against bolsters, framed by a large halo. He is flanked by Buddhi on his right who offers him a tray of modakas. Siddhi stands behind him fanning him with a yak's tail and holds a lotus in her left hand. Both of them are dressed in long skirts, short cholis with odhinis covering their heads. Ganesha’s hair is bound like that of a handsome yogi. He holds a book and lotus in his left hands, and with the right makes the gesture of blessing and also says his rosary.

The composition of the painting is balanced with the symmetrical foliage adding to it. Beautiful lotuses bloom in the foreground. Ganesha’s mouse looks lovingly towards his master squatting on a lotus leaf. The entire artwork is achieved in the Kishangarh style of painting.
