Radha Krishna Enclosed in Aum

Krishna's youth was spent in the forests of Vrindavan. As a cowherd, belonging to the pastoral race of Yadavas, he not only tended the cows, but drew everyone to him by his mischievous ways and his mastery over the flute.

In a serpentine symbol of Aum, dance Radha and Krishna to the tune of the latter's flute. Mesmerized by the same, the other gopis cannot resist gyrating too. The artist bestows each one of them with a different posture and varied costumes. There is no synchronization in their dance movements, making it a very spontaneous activity. The gopis wear simple jewellery and head ornaments as compared to the elaborate ones worn by Radha and Krishna. The artist uses the costumes to spread colour on the camas. Together with expansive use of reds, blues and greens, he uses pink colour liberally. If there is spontaneity of movement, there is symmetry in composition. With the dancing couple in the centre, there are six gopis on each side; there is balance even in the placement of vegetation.

Simple, bold lines, filled with attractive colours, make it a delightful artwork.
