Though his sthanaka (standing) images are fewer than the shayana (lying) ones, but they are stately. Here Vishnu can be seen standing on the coiled Seshnaga, the serpent representative of cosmic waters. The seven-hooded serpent spreads its hood in such a way as to form a protective canopy above him. Lord Vishnu here is dressed in finery and exquisite jewellery. His four arms hold characteristic emblems – lotus, discus, conch and mace. The lotus (padma) represents the waters, the discus (chakra) represents the air, the conch (shankha) the skies and mace (gada) represents light.
