About the Book
The simplicity and grandeur of Gurudev's writings can be compared only to the Gita; the splendorous divine majesty of his multiphase life is rivaled only by Lord Krishna's. He has silently answered the challenge "Can the Gita be practiced?" in the affirmative, and his daily life is the proof! May his blessing lead us to the Goal! Foreword
In this book Swami Venkatesananda has given a brief outline of the practical instructions of the Lord. If you practice the Lord's precepts, He will Himself reveal the Truth from within you; you will use understand the sublime philosophy of the Gita. Philosophy is not something merely to be studied from books, but something to be realised. God is not in text-books, but in your own heart; and you can realise Him if you purify your heart in accordance with the method suggested in the Gita.

May you all shine as Sthithaprajnas, Yogins, Bhaktas and Gunatitas in this very birth! May the blessings of Bhagawan Sri Krishna be upon you all!

Introduction
Gita is set in the Mahabharata as a beautiful diamond is set in a jewel. The vital part of the Srimad Bhagavata is Krishna's Play. The vital part of the Mahabharata is Krishna's teachings. Bhagavata explains to you how this creation came into being, how this universe is the Lila of the Lord. Bharata explains to you the laws that govern the creation; how the world is maintained; in Sanskrit it is called Dharma. Krishna was born in order to uphold Dharma. He came into this world in order to kill all the wicked people. He himself says so in the Gita.

There were two rival families-the Pandavas and the Kauravas. The Pandavas were virtuous; the Kauravas were wicked. Wickedness has a daring; this daring produces spectacular success. But it has no strength. Finally it is defeated by virtue. By cunning methods the Kauravas took away the kingdom that belonged to the Pandavas. They put the Pandavas to inhuman hardships.
