About the Author

Anand Krishna is a provocative spiritual master from Indonesia, a country with the largest Muslim population in the world. He is acclaimed as a "phenomenon" by both his critics and sympathizers. His critics wonder, "What makes him so popular? There is nothing extraordinary about him." His sympathizers appreciate 'his passion for promoting peace among different sections of society and acclaim: "He comes from The Source of All Wisdom."

Born in Solo, Central Java, on the 1st of September 1956, Anand had his early education in Lucknow, North India, where he met his first spiritual mentor, Sheikh Baba. A simple ice vendor, the saint was not known beyond the area he lived in, but played a major role in the "making" of Anand Krishna who was already familiar with Sufi poetry and teachings of Shah Abdul Latief of Sindh, through his father Tolaram.

Working while studying, Anand Krishna earned his Master degree from a recognized university. He was at the top of his career as a Director and Shareholder of a Garment Factory 'in Indonesia, when he fell ill. Medical diagnosis showed Leukemia at a critical stage. Thus in 1991, at the age of 35, Anand faced almost certain death.

After months of suffering and a mysterious meeting with a Tibetan lama in the Himalayas, Anand Krishna experienced a miraculous recovery from his illness. At that moment in time, Anand decided to devote his life to sharing his joy, peace, love, healing and meditation. He defines meditation as the flavor of life and daily living. His spirituality covers as aspects of life.

In the last 17 years, Anand has spoken to millions of people through television shows, radio talks, in house trainings, books, newspaper interviews and articles, as well as daily meetings and workshops held at Anand Ashram (affiliated with United Nations), One Earth Retreat Center, Anand Krishna Center and Graha Indonesia, the four centers of meditation established by him in the Indonesian Capital of Jakarta, the suburban city of Bogor, the palatial ancient city of Yogyakarta, and the beautiful island of Bali.

He is recognized as the most vocal speaker in his country, speaking on subjects like climate change, ills of the society, faith freedom, and etcetera. He advocates against the politicians and the political parties without principles. He also tries to address radicalism with love and non-violence.

"When you speak, Indonesia hears," thus said one of Indonesia's ex ministers about him.

He has also inspired several popular movements, and centers for self development, among others:

1. The National Integration Movement, with 30 branches throughout Indonesia along with overseas representation, including one in the Middle East.

2.Forum Kebangkitan Jiwa (Forum for Revival of Human Spirit) - which has given free self development programs to more than 25,000 teachers within the last 4 years.

Introduction

Sufi Guru Anand of Indonesia is a man of God destined to play an important role in building a world, which is free from malice, hatred and turmoil. He is a Bodhisattva (awakened being), who carries further the noble eight-fold Path of the great Buddha, as a message for salvation of human misery and pain.

He advocates the greatest principle of Sufism, Ishq-i- Allah, which means that God is Love. To him a church, a temple, a mosque or a synagogue are all the abodes of God. For him, the whole mankind is one, which lives under the same sky. To him all religions come from the same source, meant to bind the human souls and not to disintegrate them.

Like Jesus, the Prince of Peace, Sufi Guru Anand of Indonesia, has a passion for promoting peace and love among various peoples.

From his childhood, he was brought up under the influence of the Sufi thought, because his elders had originated from Sindh which is a land of the Sufis like Bulay Shah, Bahu Sultan and Shah Latif. Later in life, he underwent various Kriyas (yogic exercises) and Chillas (sufi discipline) under several yogis, masters and murshids (sufi mystics). However at the age of 35, he had an encounter with death and that extraordinary accident changed his life from a materialist to a spiritualist. In his apparent experience of death, he had covered a journey within, which made him into a reliable guide, friend and philosopher.

Since then, he has authored about one hundred books in English and the Indonesian Bahasa (language). The spiritual healing and meditation centers established by him in Indonesia have done commendable work in awakening human spirit and consciousness.

Sufis of all ages, during the course of history, have tried to awaken God in the hearts by self realization. All the virtues of life like compassion, love, toleration, sympathy comes within the tuning of the heart. This is an important work, which Sufi Guru Anand has undertaken with great success.

It is a great pleasure for me to have the Darshan (meeting/seeing) of this great saint of the century. His aura depicts a powerful light and his face brings joy and bliss. I wish him to live long in the service of mankind.
