Book Description
About The Book

The late Vedasastrasampanna Pandita Jagannath Shridhar Pade was a versatile and profound indological scholar of great international repute. He wrote an independent treatise in Sanskrit entitled "Dharme Sarvam Pratisthitam which was serially publi shed in twentynine different articles in the monthly Sanskrit magazine namely, the "Sarvodaya" of Varanasi. These articles were warmly received and highly appreciated by the scholarly world. These articles incorporated not only the cream of all the different Vedic and Shastric lores, culminating into the main theme of all-sustaining principle of Dharma, but also reflected the attitude of (samanvaya) of them. Though based upon our tradi tional treatises, it represents a novel contribution to our understanding of the concept of Dharma and Vedic culture.

In the present book, we, there fore, wish to present all these Sanskrit articles in the form of a book, which can give a more coherent understanding of his thesis on Dharma and which will be more convenient also as one can get all articles at one place. We have also presented the biography of scholar and his contribution and at the end, some useful appendices containing his scholarly articles in different languages are given, which would also be useful and enlightening.

Preface

The late Vedasistrasampanina Pandita Jagannath Shridhar Pade was a versatile and profound indological scholar of great international repute. He wrote an independent treatise in Sanskrit entitled "Dharme Sarvam Pratisthitam" which was serially published in twentynine different articles in the monthly Sanskrit magazine namely, the "Suryodaya" of Varanasi. These articles were warmly received and highly appreciated by the scholarly world. These articles incorporated not only the cream of all the different Vedic and Shastric lores, culminating into the main theme of all-sustaining principle of Dharma, but also reflected the attitude of cohesion (samanvaya) of them. Though based upon our traditional treatises, it represents a novel contribution to our understanding of the concept of Dharma and Vedic culture.

In the present book, we, therefore, wish to present all these Sanskrit articles in the form of a book, which can give a more coherent understanding of his thesis on Dharma and which will be more convenient also as one can get all articles at one place. We have also presented the biography of scholar & his contribution and at the end, some useful appendices containing his scholarly articles in different languages are given, which would also be useful and enlightening.

We express our sense of gratitude to the publisher for nicely bringing out this book. We are indebted to the editors of magazines and journals, like Suryodaya & others from where we have reprinted these articles in a collected form in this book. We especially mention Dr. Kapildev Pandey, editor of 'Suryodaya' for his prompt and cordial co-operation by giving permission to reprint the articles. We are also thankful to Prof. R.I. Nanavati, Dr. S.Y. Wakankar and other colleagues of the Oriental Institute for their constant encouragement and co-operation for this work.
