Essentials of Vedic Literature is well documented and vigorous work encompassing multi-furious gamut of various branches of Vedic literature, which is a candid contributions of ancient Indian scholars of supra-natural wisdom.

At the outset, this work provides general features of the Vedas, the validity, the seers, devatās and chandas. Structuring the Vedic texts, this book reveals the nature of different schools of Vedic interpretation. So too, it deals in brief, with some details regarding the commentators on the Ṛgveda. Further, describing the features of Ṛgvedic gods, the present work brings out important historical and secular ideas contained in the Ṛgveda. Likewise, the values of other three Veda samhitas are highlighted. Moreover, an exposition of other branches of Vedic literature such as Brāhmaṇas, Aranyakas and Upanishads are here taken into account, along with the special features of six Vedangas. As the Dharmasastra literature is considered on par with Vedic texts, some peculiarities of different Dharmasutra texts and of Smrti texts are brought to light here.

About the Author

Born on 16 September 1954 in a family of Vedic tradition, Dr. K B Archak combines in himself a background of traditional shastric learning with higher position in the field of modern University Education.

The Vedic canon comprises of three main divisions, such as the Samhitas, Brāhmaṇas and the Aranyakas. Of these three, both Samhitas and Brahmaņas form the karma-kända portion pertaining to the rituals, while the Aranyakas dealing with the nature of the Supreme Reality, from the jñāna-kända portion of the Vedic Literature.
