Book Description
About The Book

Here is published a brief specimen of An Exposition of the four Vedas by Svami Vidyanand 'Videh'. A cursory look into it will afford to the reader an insight into his manner of translation, explanation and way of thinking. In this self-same style will be published the expositions of all the four Vedas. This exposition is the fruit of his 43 years' long and deep study of the Vedas. The author has made full use of the two systems of internal inspiration and modernisation in this exposition. The most significant feature of this exposition is that this is his first successful attempt in the history of Vedic interpretation to establish a connected chain of thoughts of the four Vedas. The present exposition will not only render the Vedas within the reach of the masses, but will also give a new and real direction to the path of Vedic exposition even for the scholars, thinkers and scientists.

Foreword

It is not possible to pen an introduction of the Veda-Exposition Volumes until and unless a complete exposition of the four Vedas has been published. The Vedas are all-embracing. There is no learning or subject, worth the name, which is not included in them in its embryonic form. All that exists and all that is possible to exist is imbibed therein. They are the books of all true learning. They are the fountain-head of all learning and sciences, all languages and religions, all ideals and devotions, all inspirations and fine feelings. To write a prelude to the commentaries of such all embracing books before their publication is not only impossible, but untimely too. The object of a preface is to acquaint the reader with the subject-matter of the book. Endless are the subjects of the Vedas. Ananta vai Vedah (Verily, the Vedas are endless). It is not possible to introduce the readers to the infinite without offering an inlet in the infinity. That is why I propose to give the prelude at the end, instead of at the beginning.

In the beginning of the twentyfirst year of my life, I set out to study and propagate the Vedas, with the object in view that I would establish an all embracing universal familyhood by means of a world-wide infusion of the Vedic lore, Samskrt, Vedic culture and Vedic spiritualism. I was hardly twentyeight years of age, when I had gone through all the available Samskrt, English and Hindi translations of the Vedas. I derived enough help from all of them in my Vedic studies. I owe a deep debt of gratitude to them all for it.
