Book Description
Foreword

Government of India’s resolution of the 18th January 1968 on the language policy adopted by both the Houses of Parliament emphasized that in the interest of the educational and cultural enhancement of the country it was necessary to take concerted measures for the full development of the major languages of India. The resolution further emphasized the need to prepare and implement programmes in collaboration with the State Governments for the coordinated development of all these languages so that they could grow rapidly in richness and become effective means of communicating modern knowledge. In order to achieve this goal, CIIL was established on 17th July 1969.

As part of the implementation of three language formula, the Institute gives 10 months training to the teachers who are deputed by various State Governments. It also conducts research; produces materials, and conducts orientation programmes. It has produced audio, video materials te support the class room teaching.

The present. volume, Gili Tuury - Afsana Sombran (A Collection of Short Stories) is a Supplementary Reader for learners of Kashmiri language. It consists of short stories written by prominent creative writies for the youngsters. It can be used as a supplementary reader for teaching and learning of Kashmiri as a first language at the level of high school and also as a second language at the advanced level. In addition to representing various literary styles and rich diction, these short stories present the cultural background of the people who speak Kashmiri as mother tongue.

It is hoped that this book will fully meet the needs of the learners of Kashmiri as both the first and second language. The editor and the Institute will feel rewarded if the book is well received by the lerarners and teacheys of Kashmiri.
