E T Sankaran Kutty, born in 1937 in Madras, descends from a well-known family of Palghat, Kerala.

He graduated from the University of Madras with a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, joined Indian Overseas Bank, Chennai, as an Officer and retired as Assistant General Manager in 1997 after more than three decades of tireless service. To fulfill his spiritual quest and thirst, he started writing on Hinduism after his retirement.

The scriptures of Sanatana Dharma or Hinduism are of two classes, namely Smrithi and Sruthi. If Sruthi is meant for a select class of people like priests and ‘Bramacharya’ students for recital; Smtithi, is meant for people in the low stage of spiritual evolution who like to either read them by themselves and to others; or hear others reading them. Thereby, their emotional inclinations as well their devotional aspirations are catered to and stirred up by reading the book.

These compositions of the great Rishis are of diverse nature. In these scriptures, the spiritual truths are described in various ways like stories and incidents, dialogues and anecdotes, in a practical way, with a human touch or in a life-like background. Unlike the Sruthi scriptures, the Smrithi scriptures appeal to play significant roles in stirring up their emotions, in activating their intellect and also in energising their actions, in their spiritual march.

Presented in this book, are excerpts from epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata, Bhagavad Gita and the Puranas, which contain values of Dharma, eternal truths and principles of high order.
