Home remedies are derived from readily available natural resources and are perfected through experience. These may range from treatments based on physical exercises, using Panchtatava, the five elements (earth, air,water,fire and sky), concentrating mental powers (as in meditation) to employing herbal extracts or whole herbs for deriving health benefits and of course consuming a balanced diet to keep diseases at bay.
The following narration is full of fascinating herbal therapies which are easy to follow and adopt. Combing herbal treatment with synthetic drugs could have synergistic effect. It can at times be highly risky due to incompatibility. For general ailments however relying on natural treatments is a wiser choice. Compartmentalizing herbal, homeopathy and drug based therapies and using one system of treatment at a time is an ideal situation.
We have made an attempt to describe the treatment for some selective ailments in this book. The essential features incorporate the procedure of preparing the medicine duration of treatment and necessary precautions if any.
For preparing the medicine often powdering or maceration is required. It is advised that a porelain pestle and mortar be used for this purpose, instead of using an electrical mixie or homogenizer. This is to avoid metal contact with the greens which may have potential curative enzymes. For storing purpose glass bottles with tight lids are ideal.

Dr. M. Ahluwalia is ex-Chief Medical officer,WUS Health Centre University Of Delhi.. She has worked in India and USA in different branches of medicine. Dr. Alhuwalia has successfully treated a large number of patients suffering from various types of ailments. Besides allopathy therapy she is a strong believer in treating patients by alternative therapies.
Dr.S. Biannulate teaches chemistry at Gargi College University Of Delhi. She has been teaching for more than three decades. She earned her PhD degree in Phytochemistry and has several research papers. She specializes in chemistry education and innovative tools and techniques in environmentally benign chemistry. She has worked and presented research papers in India and abroad.
