Book Description

Foreword:

Potrayals of cultural heritage of Punjab by its great artists in different forms and genres is their singular contribution to the richness not only of the Punjabi life and culture but also to that of the whole country.

Amrita Shergil, a par excellent painter 'looked much like a painting herself.' K.L. Saigal is that legendary singer, who whatever sang, became music. The Powerful, rich, melodious voice of Bade Gulam Ali Khan, who was an accredited exponent of Patiala Gharana, toughed the hearts of even the insensitive.

Sobha Singh, who was called by his admirers as the "Artist with a divine touch" devoted his whole life to "Growing more good" Through the medium of painting.

Prithviraj Kappor was triple genius- a great film actor, a father figure in theatre and upholder of great Indian social values. His plays and films were 'massive sagas', of life full of rituals, music, ceremonies songs, sword fights, comic situations and soul-stirring tragic moments.

Ragi Samund Singh appointed as Hazoori Ragi of Nankana Sahib, which was a rare honour, will always be known for religious depth, emotion, felling and spiritual import of the Shabad, apart from rhythmic singing in the classical mould. He was in true sense "Behre-Mausique" (The ocean of music)

To Satish Gujral, the great artist, everything that has creative possibilities in exciting, Every idea is an independent being. The idea is supreme and demands a garment, a dress. To him, greatness does not lie in 'painting beautiful things, but painting things beautifully.'

Gurcharan Sing, the master potter, has earned the name for popularizing the finest art of clay, the most ancient and noble of crafts. He would say : clay has a feeling. It is the earth, made of the same elements as we. We are more in harmony with clay than machine.

Thakur Singh, a painter of international repute, is known for fine craftsmanship and mastery in drawing. His Paintings were so attractive that Lord Irwin and Lord Linlithgo had these in their collections. He captured human figures, natural scenery, and historical moments with absolute precision.

Balraj Sahni was great actor, writer, patriot, and a visionary with great passion for Punjabi culture, art, language and literature. He was devotion, honesty and truth personified: deeply committed in Indian mannerisms and emotional identification. He had a sense of deep social commitment of a revolutionary. His house in Bombay was an attractive centre of Panjabi Culture.
