This handbook focuses on all aspects of fitness and wellness including Yoga and how it can bring relief from physical & mental stress. It also explains scientific methods of sports and physical training. It covers the various sports injuries that generally occur during sports and physical training and their immediate first aid procedures.

It also contains a section on obesity management—a badly needed section considering the alarming rate at which obesity is on the increase, especially among the younger generation, due to the lifestyle and eating habits. The book helps to understand nutrition and gives advice on balanced diet for people in all walks of life.

Preface

Modern sports scientists are relentlessly exploring new possibilities for excellence in every sports discipline and physical education.

As a result, the method of conducting physical education and sports training at all levels acquired much greater significance than ever before. Training methods have greatly advanced and enormous work has been done in the field, making the task of physical educators and coaches a bit easier.

This book will give an overall view of complete fitness, wellness, stress relief and yogic techniques to the training physical educators and sports coaches at various levels. This book deals with all aspects of wellness, fitness, exercises, nutrition, obesity, doping, sports injuries, yoga, recreational activities and also give an idea of some popular games.

It is necessary for a physical educator to take into consideration each of the above aspects which affect health and sports performance. I hope that it will prove to be a handy guide for coaches and physical educators as well as the sports &fitness enthusiasts and training physical educators aspiring to reach high level of training qualities.

Introduction

One generally understands that the ultimate wealth of a human being is health. From a layman to an outstanding sportsman, health and fitness are the ultimate wealth to move on in life. In modern times spectacular improvement in human performance has been attributed mostly to modern methods and excellent knowledge of body mechanism.

People today are very aware of the importance of maintaining their physical health. Various means have been suggested as keys to improving one's well-being, but the fact of psychological stability is still too often downplayed, either because its importance is not fully recognised or there is no known way of strengthening the stability.

Today's fast moving world takes its own toll on the human body in the form of various kinds of stress that make people's lives miserable. Playing various sports for recreation or professionally, imparts key benefits to overcome stress.

High performing Athletes & Coaches today recognize that the most consistently effective methods of preparing for the demands of international competition are those based on proven scientific principles, rather than on trial and error. Sporting excellence is a very complex balancing act.

Adequate knowledge in all aspects of performance is necessary to get positive results. Positive thinking is very effective in sport. It can be allied with the phrases 'will to win' and 'playing to win'. All negatives have a positive somewhere, if you look hard enough. Sometimes people have great difficulty in finding a positive thought. All it takes is a helping hand from a coach or a mentor and the adequate knowledge will come into play. I am sure that this book will give a helping hand to all physical educators and coaches who are training sportsmen/ physical educators, and health, fitness and sports enthusiasts in their day today activities.
