Preface

A renowned western physician having fed up with the innumerable side effects of modern synthetic drugs has once remarked :-

“ALL DRUGS OF THE WORLD THROWN AWAY INTO OCEAN, THOUGH ALL FISHES WILL DIE BUT IT WILL BE A GREAT OBLIGATION TO THE HUMAN RACE”.

His intention behind such observation is not to save the mankind by killing fishes of the ocean, but to expose the harmful toxic side effects of modern synthetic drugs, which have grasped the whole of mankind.

Trends are gradually changing with the pace of time. However, man with enhanced awareness & changed life-Styles, have always searched for effective ways of Health Care System. Of late, the world has begun to realise the spectacular efficacy of timetested & trusted herbal drugs & therefore gladly turning back to its fold. Modern research has already established the effectiveness & innocuouness of herbal drugs of today, which are still maintaining their supremacy in Human Health Care Science. The herbal remedies, after suffering a lot, are now becoming increasingly popular not only in India, but also in western countries, who at one time or the other were the ardent supporter of synthetic drugs. Thus, herbal drugs have once again been able to revive its own victorious position of importance. Time is not far away when the flag of natural herbal drugs will be seen flying at the high altitudes of the world of medicines. Hence, we must kindle the light of this Science.

The Herbal system of Drugs are derived entirely from natural ingrediants, i.e. herbs, fruits & minerals etc. I may not always offer a rapid relief by merely suppressing the external symptoms but promotes real cure by removing the roots cause of disease & thus leaves long lasting effects even on complicated ailments too. Since today not a single disease is found to be simple & almost all of them are of complex in nature, patent & proprietary herbal drugs have come into existence to combat these. Of course, they are Nature’s best Gift for ailing Manklind.

The Idea of compiling this reference book titled-“INDIGENOUS MEDICAL PRACTITIONER’S DESK REFERENCE” (IMPDR) came to my mind by keenly observing the rising popularity of Allopathy Books like-“(M.R), a drug index in Hindi, “MIMS India”, “CIMS India”, & “Drug To day”, amongst the Medical practitionars/ Student of Allopathy System of Medicine. I realized that a book on the same line on Indigenous System of Drugs is the need of hour.

The IMPDR has been compiled with a view to provide the active practitioners on Ayurevedic, Unani, Homoeopathy & Siddha System of Medicines the most needed information on various aspects relating to their profession in a Comprehensive, Organised & Scientifice manner. I the present edition of IMPDR, all efforts have been made to made to make the publication a most useful, informative & systematic handy reference manual by arranging numerous indigenous ethical preparations of over 100 reputed Pharmaceuticals in a classified manner. The pattern of compilation & the mode of presentation of drugs in my book have been designer in a manner found to be most suitable from the Medical Professional’s point of view.

The form in which the IMPDR is being presented here, I hope, it will certainly prove to be a publication of immense help to busy Medical practitioners, Scholars & Students. All the relevant information such as composition, indications, dosage & packings of the drugs of indigenous systems can be readily available at their finger tips, which will facilitate them promptly to select the drugs of their choice. It will equally be a Valuable source of information book for Pharmacists, Chemists & Druggists & worth keeping in Laboratories, Pharmaceuticals & libraries too. IMPDR is probably the first of its kind to have contained so much valuable data in a sinlge book rendered for the use of medical Professionals. Of course, this is to be published in regular intervals with necessary amendments, when products of new & newer Pharmaceuticals will be introduced & simultaneously outdated products will be deleted therefrom to keep the IMPDR dynamic . The IMPDR contains data on –

(a) Full prescribing information including composition, indications, dosage, side-effects, precautions, contraindications, packings etc. on thousands of patent & Proprietary drugs on Aurvedic, Unani, Homoeopathy & Siddha System of Medicines marketed in India.

(b) Pharmacological index.

(d) Alphabetical list of about 100 reputed Pharmaceuticals with their complete postal addresses (whose ethical preparations on indigenous systems are included in the publication).

(e) Details of various manufactures/Suppliers of different items generally used by medical professionals & Pharmaceuticals, are also included. While with my limited knowledge, every efforts has been made to cover all the relevant aspects from the Doctor’s point of view, I shall be highly thankful to the learned medical Professionals who bring out to my knowledge any commission & omissions, caused inadvertently, for necessary corrections & omissions, caused inadvertently, for necessary corrections in the subsequent edition. Moreover, any suggestion on improvement to make this publication more Scientific, appealing & acceptable to our Medical Fraternity will be most welcome & appreciated. If the book proves to be of slightest use to those for whom it has been compiled, I shall feel my labour amply rewarded.
