The Universal conciousness that holds the nature with all its entities in great reverence is notable from the available literature across the world. The Vedas, 'Atharva' in particular is a mine of knowledge on plant science, which is one of the world's oldest treatises.
The Hindu faith find its expresion in the Vedas to begin with, the continuity of which is observable in subsequent literature in the Itihasas, Puranic lore and Kavyas.
Among many sacred plants of India, "Tulasi" is distinctly placed and revered. The Puranic accounts show extended narratives about the plant which is a manifestation of purity, goodness and devotion. Our many expectorant medicines reveal its name in the list of ingredients.
