Book Description
From the Back of the Book

The first Parliament of world Religions held at Chicago in 1893, had hardly envisaged any role for the Sikh community in the modern interfaith movement. However, world-renowned historian Prof. Arnold Tonybee was aptly right to signify that mankinds religious future may be obscure, yet one thing can be foreseen; the living higher religions are going to influence each other more than ever before, in the days of increasing communication between all parts of the world and all branches of human life. In this coming religious debate, the Sikh religion and its scripture, and Adi Granth, will have something special value to say to the rest of the world. Very truly, the Sikh community has exhibited its fellowship and vitality to the world community by participating in the Parliament of world Religions held in Barcelona in 2004. The modern world is best with differences that are often aggravated by religious prejudice. It is only the interfaith understanding which can bring the world community closer which in turn can usher in an era of peace, goodwill and amity. The present volume comprises the papers that were presented at the third International Conference on Guru Granth Sahib held at Guru Nanak Dev University on Dec. 3-5, 2003. All those papers focus on the Sikh perspective of interfaith understanding and its relevance for world peace. These papers cover a wide spectrum and help to make the message of guru Granth Sahib better known far beyond the Sikh Community.
