Book Description
Preface

Our country was once an ocean of stories. In our own time the short story has been the most popular form of creative writing. It has become a kind of extension of the folk tale, with many underlayers of feeling, texture and technique adopted from the west. I have my own way of handling the intense moments of my own soul experience, in the seasons of hell we are going through. And I have offered these pieces to Jaico, because isolated writings have a habit of getting list in an author's workshop.

All the stories in this volume have appeared in various magazines. I wish to thank the Editors of the following journals: Eastern Horizon; Blitz; Deccan Herald; Ogonek; Mainstream.

The inscriptions in italics under the title of each story are acknowledges of debts of one kind or another.

The drawing on the cover is by Amina Ahmed. The book has been designed by Dolly Sahiar.
