What People Are Saying About Rasa

"It is perhaps the most helpful exposition of the bhakti tradition that has come my way. Thank you for writing it."-Huston Smith, Author of the best-seller, The World's Religions. Professor at UC Berkeley.

"Tripurari Swami, perhaps the most noted Western exponent of the philosophical tradition of Bhakti, brings the deep perception of the devotional mind to the modern age and unravels the problems of contemporary living through its insight. Such a contribution brings a new dimension to the spiritual life which all serious seekers should examine, at the very least to broaden their horizons."- David Frawley, Vedacarya. Author of Gods, Kings and Sages

"Rasa helps us to face and formulate critical issues of life in personal and religious terms, and thus bespeaks hope and offers explicit possibilities for living and loving in ways that are both humane and devout."-Professor Joseph T. O'Connell St. Michael's College, University of Toronto

"This book is an absolute treasure, and it is delightful to read. You have given the world a prize jewel, a book that will teach people to love each other and the Lord as well."-Steven Rosen. Author of Food for the Spirit Editor of Journal for Vaishnava Studies

Preface

One cannot be successful in spiritual life without the favor of the spiritual master, sri guru. My spiritual master asked me to distribute literature explaining the teaching of Sri Chaitanya, especially in the Western world from where I hail. By his grace, I was able to do so successfully, and it is by his grace that I am now able to write about the teaching of Sri Chaitanya, explaining his doctrine from within the cultural context I am most familiar with.

Let me offer my prostrate obeisances unto him, my eternal preceptor and ever-well-wisher, Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, who is an ocean of compassion. Let me also offer my prostrate obeisances unto Srila Bhakti raksaka Sridhara Deva Goswami Maharaja, who at the request of my spiritual master has helped me immensely to understand the significance of the relationship between the guru and disciple as taught by Sri Chaitanya. May they both bless the readers of this book, that the readers may one day soon relish the prema-dharma of Sri Chaitanya and thus inspire me further along the path.

This book is very different from the style of the writings of my spiritual master. Yet it is written in the same bold spirit that possessed him to come to the Western world, which resulted, among other things, in my spiritual life.

Understanding to some extent the value of Sri Chaitanya's teaching, I will consider this book successful if as a result of reading it even one person is moved even slightly in the direction of prema-dharma.
