It is with great pleasure that I present this textbook on Research Methodology and Biostatistics, authored by the distinguished Dr. Arun Raj G.R. and Dr. Kavya Mohan, tailored for first-year postgraduate students of Ayurveda (MD/MS). This book is a significant contribution to academic excellence, aligning seamlessly with the syllabus prescribed by the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM). The inclusion of these subjects in the curriculum underscores their indispensable role in shaping a scientifically grounded and methodologically adept generation of Ayurvedic scholars.
The NCISM syllabus is a reflection of the evolving demands of academic rigor and professional competency in Ayurveda. It systematically introduces students to the core principles of research and the critical importance of biostatistics in validating and enhancing Ayurvedic practices. Research methodology fosters the ability to critically analyse literature, formulate robust hypotheses, and design meaningful studies, while biostatistics equips students with the skills to interpret data, assess outcomes, and draw precise conclusions. Together, these subjects provide a framework for bridging the rich heritage of Ayurveda with the evidence-based approach of modern healthcare systems.
The academic importance of this syllabus lies in its comprehensive approach, combining theoretical insights with practical applications. Students are guided through the intricacies of ethical research, advanced statistical techniques, and publication protocols, enabling them to contribute to high-quality research that meets global standards. This curriculum is particularly crucial as Ayurveda seeks greater international recognition, requiring practitioners who can communicate its efficacy through scientifically validated methods. By embedding these essential components into the learning process, the syllabus ensures that students are well-prepared for both academic and clinical challenges.
Dr. Arun Raj G.R. and Dr. Kavya Mohan have expertly transformed this academic vision into a textbook that is both accessible and intellectually stimulating. With its structured content, practical examples, and problem-solving exercises, this book serves as a valuable resource for postgraduate students. It inspires critical thinking and fosters the analytical mindset necessary for advancing Ayurvedic research. I am confident that this textbook will play a pivotal role in enhancing the academic and professional journey of Ayurveda scholars, contributing significantly to the evolution of this ancient science.
The Ayurveda system of health care is increasing in acceptance throughout the world. Like any other system of medical science, Ayurveda too have to stand the test of time. Research is one among the prime most tools that helps the system of Ayurveda to answer the challenging questions of today. The Research Methodology and Biostatistics syllabus advised by the Board of Ayurveda, National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM), New Delhi will be of precise aid in equipping the budding post graduate scholars of Ayurveda to meet with all sort of scientific questions as well as challenges.
