Prologue

Sanaatna Dharma or Hinduism as we know it today has, a monoistic spirit, but at the same time is consious of the fact that mans character is multifareous. Thus we have many Gods and Goddesses in Hindu pantheon. Sri Aadi Sankara, systematised the worship of personal God (Saguna Upasana) under six heads Shanmata (Kowmaaram) is one amongst them.

Sri Subrahmanya, is the presiding deity of Kowmaaram who symbolises fire (which is one of the progenitor of Skanda). Fire also is a metaphor for knowledge, hence Subrahmanya is zhe Lord who symbolises knowledge (Jnaana Shakti). The two wives of Subrahmanya, Valli and Devasena represent Ichchaa

Shakti (Power of resolve) and Kriyaa Shakti (Power of action) making the worship of Subrahmanya along with his consorts is a wholesome exercise for the spiritual development.

The present book brings out the thousand names of Sri Subrahmanya as shloka for Paaraayana (recital) and Naamaavali-Archana (worship) extracted from Sri Skanda Puraana (one of the 18 major Puraanas). It is imparted to deserving sages by none other than Prajapati Brahma. The regular recital is found to fulfill all the heartfelt desires of the devotee. Another speciality of this stotra is that, the names come arranged in sanskrit alphabetical order. For the convenience of those who can't spare enough time for sahasranaama recital, the 1 08 names (Ashtottarashata-Naamaavali) is also provided.

The book also contains Sri Subrahmanya Bhujanga Stotram composed by Sri Aadi Sankara at Tiruchendur Kshetra to get himself freed from severe stomach ailment. The Aacaarya prophecises that the recital of the stotra would confer the oneness with Skanda apart from other materialistic benefits. May we all partake the bliss and grace of Lord Subrahmanya by this Recital.
