Book Description
About the Book
Nityananda and Gauracandra are always displaying Their pastimes together. Once in Jaganath Puri They sat in a secluded place for a confidential talk. Mahaprabhu told Nityananda, "You should go to Gaudadesh and enter family life; only then can all the householders be delivered. By entering family life you will be able to propagate bhakti everywhere. I will come again and manifest in the form of your child (Biracandra). You will naturally be able to recognize Me. Once gain I will deliver the world by distributing Bhakti (in My incarnation as Biracandra). The scriptures do not mention this incarnation and no one can understand my inconceivable lila. Without Your mercy no one can know Me, therefore You will reveal Me. In previous yuga (Dvapara) the Yadu dynasty was destroyed, but Your dynasty (Nityananda Vamsa) will spread all over the world".

Preface
For the pleasure of Sri Guru, Sri Nitai-Gauranga and Sri Radha-Krishna we are happy to present this edition of Sri Nityananda Vamsa Vistar. The default translation of the edition of Sri Nityananda Vamsa Vistar. The default translation of the Bengali title would be "The Expansions of Nityananda’s Dynasty" but the subtitle "Nityananda and His Descendants" is more elegant. Vamsa means ‘dynasty’ or ‘family’ and refers to Nityananda’s blood line. Vistara means ‘Expansion’ and refers to ‘Nityananda Parivar’, Nityananda’s disciplic lineafe, the parampara line coming from Him (and from His consort Jahnava Thakurani, the mother of our Gaudiya Vaisnava sampradaya) Nityananda Parivar is one of the Traditional Gaudiya Vaisnava Lines. Gaudiya means the followers of Mahaprabhu in Gaura lila and of Srimat Radharani in Krishna lila.

Whatever sanga or line we happen to belong to, we are all members of one family, Nitai Gaura Parivar. The publication of this book is therefore a cause of celebration for those who consider themselves followers of Nitai-Gauranga.

Foreword
Nityananda Vamsa Vistar is a complex, intricate and intriguing composition; a Vaisnava scripture composed by Sri Vrindavan Das Thakur, author of Sri Caitanya Bhagavat, in his maturity. He narrates it in a poetic verse form with precise meter and rhyme. It is poetry in motion and therefore he says at the end of each chapter (stanza), "Thus I sing this Vamsa Vistar." It is written in classic Bengali, the language of Sri Nitai-Gauranga and of sri Caitanya caritamrita. It is said that Bengali is the language of sweetness (bangle misti bhasya) referring both to its nature as the most poetic and spiritually conducive language, and to its ability to describe the sweet human like amorous pastimes of the Divine Couple known as madhurya rati (Literally ‘loving sweetness’).

Introduction
Nityananda Vamsa Vistar is about the expansion of Nityananda’s family lineage and about the propagation of Mahaprabhu’s Sanskirtan mission in the world. It is partially about Sri Nityananda and His consorts, Sri Vasudha Devi and Sri Jahnava Ma, but mainly about Sri Birancandra Prabhu (aka Virabhadra). Below is Krishna das Kaviraja’s description of Sri Biracandra Prabhu in Sri Caitanya Caritamrita, Adi lila, 11th Capter, ‘The Expansions of Lord Nityananda’ with the commentary of Prangopal Goswami, the great Vaisnava Acarya (as well as the great grandfather and paramesthi Guru of premgopal Goswami under whose guidance this edition was compiled.
