Book Description
Introduction

Srila Curu-pada-padma is the expansion of Sri Nityananda Prabhu, as well as all the Guru-varga. They are present everywhere in the holy dhama, because they are related and connected to Nityananda Prabhu. Nityananda Prabhu manifested His holy dhama for devotees, sadhakas, and the conditioned souls. He gives a chance to all. Anyhow, if anyone comes, then Nityananda Prabhu is ready to help him. He invites and brings everyone here. He trains them, makes them qualified, and gives them svarupa-siddhi, with the great chance to serve Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu.

Nityananda Prabhu is very merciful. He approaches people and requests them in a humble mood, praying to them, "Come to the holy dhama."

Our acaryas performed bhajana in Svarupa Ganja, on the eastern side of the Ganga, in Godruma-dhama. They invited everyone to come to the dhama.

nadiya-godrume nityananda mahajana
patiyache nama-batta jivera karana

In Nadiya, on the island of Godruma, the magnanimous Nityananda Prabhu has opened a marketplace of the holy name for the deliverance of all jivas.

sraddhavan jan be, sraddhavan jan be
prabhur ajnay, bhai, magi ei bhikha
bolo krsna, bhajo krsna, koro krsna-sikha

There He calls out to all, "O faithful men! On Sri Gauranga's order, O brothers, I beg you: Chant 'Krsna!', serve Krsna and worship and follow His teachings.

Nityananda Prabhu opened a market place of harinama in Godruma-dhama. The only cost is sraddha, faith. How can this faith come? Nityananda Prabhu gives pure existence, meaning, He gives special food to help the soul's body develop. He requested Mahaprabhu, "Please come, but not alone. The nine limbs of bhakti are present in Navadvipa-dhama. When the living entities come, how will they develop greed for performing sravana and kirtana-to hear hari-katha and sing harinama? Wherever the jivas are present, they have a deep desire to hear. They go for entertainment, listen to music and to their lovers' sweet words. They perform sravana and kirtana, but not for God. They hear and speak for others, according to their desires for sense gratification. But coming in this holy dhama, Nityananda Prabhu requested Mahaprabhu, "Give them special mercy and make them active. May the idea of pure sravana and kirtana come, and after attaining knowledge, may they be able to properly follow."

Many people have spiritual knowledge, but they don't try to practice. Mahaprabhu brought the navadha-bhakti-pitha- sthana here to Navadvipa-dhama, and created a perfect place to practice vraja-bhakti. Vrndavana has twelve forests, many hills and lakes, and many playing places for Krsna. Many Deities are also present. But in Navadvipa-dhama there is only one Deity- Mahaprabhu.

advaita acarya, nityananda, dui anga
duijana lana prabhura yata kichu ranga

Nityananda Prabhu and Advaita Acarya are two manifestations of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu who help Him in His transcendental pastimes.

eka mahaprabhu, ara prabhu dui jana
dui prabhu seve mahaprabhura carana

There is one Mahaprabhu and two Prabhus who serve the lotus feet of Mahaprabhu.

Nityananda Prabhu and Advaita Prabhu are included with Mahaprabhu. They serve Mahaprabhu. If anyone comes from anywhere, Nityananda Prabhu and Advaita Prabhu clean their anarthas, and then give them spiritual power, making them eager to hear hari-katha and engage in nama-sankirtana. They then remember the mercy of Gaurahari, Nityananda Prabhu, Advaita Prabhu, Gadadhara Pandita, and Srivasa Pandita, Everyone's memory will then be very sharp and clean. Without the mercy of the panca-tattva, the five elements in the body will never be clean. These five elements in the body-earth, water, fire, air, and ether-are like great dacoits; they are ferocious demons. They always inspire us to enjoy the material world, ordering our souls, "Help me enjoy." They are always with us. The five elements compose the physical body, and issue a strong order, "Stay with me, help me, serve me."

The senses are always greedy for the five rasas of this world-form, taste, sound, smell, and touch. The senses are very greedy for these. Mahaprabhu and Nityananda Prabhu say, "Alone we cannot save the living entities."

Mahaprabhu, Nityananda Prabhu, Advaita Prabhu, Gadadhara Pandita, Srivasa Pandita, Mukunda Ghosa, Sanjaya, Govinda Ghosa, Murari Gupta, Abhirama Thakura, the Dvadasa Gopala, Causatti-mahanta, Asta-kaviraja, and Sad Gosvamis are all our protectors. The senses have been tormenting the soul for millions of lives in the prison of the physical body. We are all prisoners now that cannot do anything without the desire of the senses. If we want to walk, the legs may say, "We are tired, we won't go. We won't help you." Then we cannot move. But if my lover calls me, I can walk two thousand kilometers, because the senses like mundane rasa. But they don't like transcendental bhakti-rasa and vraja-rasa. The senses have no desire for this; therefore they won't walk. They say, "You can arrange a vimana or anything else, but I won't walk."

Our Guru-varga would walk from Navadvipa to Vrndavana and back. They would also walk to Jagannatha Puri. They would go to all the holy dhamas, with deep desire for bhakti-rasa. Anywhere the sadhus distribute this bhakti-rasa, the anuragi Vaisnavas go there. Now we are all arrested by and attached to our senses. The panca-tattva are very qualified. They purify the five elements in our body, and enable us to use this body for God's service.

Mahaprabhu told Nityananda Prabhu, "Go everywhere! Request and inspire the living entities to serve Krsna, and give them My love. The jivas are very greedy for love. Some people will even give up their lives for love. But love in this world is not real. It is the giver of pain and suffering." The living entities become attached to objects of this world, which cause them misery. These are painful and poisonous. If love is used only for God, it is very sweet and helpful for the living entities. Then there is no need of further sadhana, austerity, tension, or anything. When this love is used for the senses, it creates prarabdha and aprarabdha, sins and offenses.

Mahaprabhu told Nityananda Prabhu, "Go help the living entities. They are weak. Help them come to Me. They are greedy for love. They go to animals, dogs, cats, ladies, and gents, running here and there only out of desire for love and affection. They have greed, 'May someone speak sweetly to me, with a polite and humble mood. May someone accept and take care of me, and think about me.' All are greedy for love, but no one knows that no one from this world can fulfill our desires for love. Distribute My love. Then everyone will come to Me. But if this love is not given, the jivas wander in this desert-like world, suffering again and again in the millions of species for millions and millions of lives."

One time, Lokanatha dasa Thakura sent Narottama dasa Thakura out of Vraja, saying, "Go help all jivas, don't stay here any longer. If you are sitting and chanting near me, this is not enough. I have seen that your heart is very soft and you are kind to all jivas. In the afternoon, one farmer came and asked for water, and you gave him out of your kindness. Now, this is the desire of God. Go and help everyone."

Narottama dasa Thakura, Srinivasa Acarya, and Syamananda Prabhu came to Srila Jiva Gosvami, who gave them all of the Gosvamis' books, and ordered them to give them to the world. Narottama dasa Thakura came to Kheturi Grama and wrote many songs, explaining the deep meanings of sastra. He wrote Prema-bhakti-candrika, giving a ray of light, illuminating the path to prema-bhakti. The living entities have jumped into the deep, dark well of material existence out of desire for mundane enjoyment. Here, they are moving as embodied souls in the sewage of gross sense enjoyment from one species to another. They can never escape without help from higher personalities. Narottama dasa Thakura gave this Prema-bhakti-candrika, a ray of moonlight, to help bestow prema-bhakti. He began the book by saying, "Come with me to the lotus feet of Sri Guru, 'Sri Guru-carana-padma.' "

Those who come from all around the world to Navadvipa-dhama are very lucky. Nityananda Prabhu is Sri Guru here. All the Guru-varga, acaryas, and Vaisnavas are His expansions. If you take shelter of any Vaisnava, and he takes care of you, he will train you and make you very strong, and will offer you to the lotus feet of Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Then everything will be very easy and sweet; you will be the family member of God. You will no longer identify yourself as a member of your blood family. You will not give your address as a particular country, and say you belong to this or that religion. This is not your identity! This is not even the identity of the body, senses, or five elements. The five elements are also given by God. God gives the body and senses to all living entities. Some souls are given bodies of elephants and some are given the bodies of ants, while some are given male or female human bodies. But now the jivas misuse God's given property-this is called sins, offenses, or anarthas. If you come to Guru-pada-padma, you will understand the meaning of prema-bhakti.

Narottama dasa Thakura practically showed how this Prema-bhakti-candrika is true by spreading the sankirtana movement. Jahnava Mata Thakurani and maha-bhagavata Vaisnavas from all over came, along with Mahaprabhu, Nityananda Prabhu, and the other panca-tattva; all came to the sankirtana in Kheturi Grama. Krsna came along with Srimati Radharani in seven forms as Radha-kanta, Radha-vallabha, Radha-Syamasundara, and so forth. Narottama dasa Thakura started alone. But he had collected this prema-bhakti from his Gurudeva, and he taught us the ideal of guru-seva. Before, there was no deep and detailed instruction for guru-seva. Narottama dasa Thakura composed Sri Guru-carana-padma, and later, Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura wrote the Gurvastakam.
