Description
About the Book

Humanism today, we are afraid, is on the wane. The relation between man and man, and, for that end-in-view, man and the world, as it ought to be is far beyond satisfactory. The nagging ukase in humanism nursed in passivity, * cowardice, egoism, ignorance and apathy has already greeted much mischief to be rampantly afoot and has exceedingly brought man down to the abyss of inhuman insensibility.

A vibrant humanist par excellence, Swami Vivekananda harmonizes humanism with the living realities and constraints of life, and spells out the finer essence of humanism by upholding the eternal spirit of man—Tat Tamhosi. He accentuates the essential components of humanism, which pave newer and more thrilling avenues of the ascent and excellence of man in terms of society, education, aesthetics, religion, spirituality, mysticism and peace.

A unique study on the philosophy of Swami Vivekananda’s vibrant humanism.

Preface

To be as one ought to be is the genesis of humanism. Swami Vivekananda goes a step farther in the efflorescence of humanism. He makes intensive inroads to one’s being in the celebration of consciousness, which prompts and enables one to march ahead towards diverse and thrilling avenues of ascent and excellence. The Garden of Paradise is always in man beckoning to become an eternal wayfarer to beauty and goodness, humility and righteousness, simplicity and fullness.

The cathedral of humanism as Vivekananda vibrantly presents, is a symbol of the ardent promise and poignance of man-the promise and poignance of Tat Tamhosi, Thou art That, and the Swayambhu, the All Beautiful effulged in oneself, which is the most prized identity of man. To make this cathedral an ever sacred and serene altar in humankind is all that we are all | the time in quest of meaningful and practical philosophy of humanism. "The Essence of Humanism: Vivekananda’s Viewpoints" is concerned with this quest.

That the society in which we live and share our thoughts and actions, needs an out and out overhauling in terms of love, sympathy, service, fellow-feeling, tolerance and many other invaluable components contributing to worthwhile humanism is discussed at lengthin "Humanism and Society: Vivekananda’s. Guidelines".

The true and living vision of humanism always banks upon education of the right kind and that of the right mind. In "Humanism and Education: Vivekananda’s Perspectives" this important dimension of education has been analysed with a critical approach to what Vivekananda actually envisions humanism in and through the apposite role of education.

Religion, more often than not, is an appalling ukase and abstraction. Bereft of its essential and ardent fusion with the appropriate spirit of humanism, it hardly responds to the head and the heart, the mind and the soul, and, above all, to the beckoning of the good and the beautiful. The essence of humanism that is actually the essence of true religion can never be apart from man. The destiny of man looks forward to that humanism which calls forth and caresses to cultivate the religion of the all-round welfare of every human being. "Humanism and Religion: Vivekananda’s Breakthroughs" deals with this altruistic spirit of humanism from an altogether newer and more thrilling perspective of practical religion.

"Humanism and Aesthetics: Vivekananda’s Beckonings" is an in-depth analysis of how Swami Vivekananda serenely delineates with role of aesthetics in humanism.

Humanism cannot but be nurtured with the finer components of mysticism. "Humanism and Mysticism: Vivekananda’s Introspection" is a modest endeavour to identify, analyse and evaluate the essentials of humanism as Vivekananda advocates with special reference to the mystic beyonding of man.

"Humanism and Spiritualism: Vivekananda’s efflorescence" is an intensive study of how Vivekananda continually makes us aware of the importance of the cultivation of humanism that amply contributes to the advancement of inner excellence and divine ascent of man.

"Humanism and Peace: Vivekananda’s Vision" and "Towards a New Image of Man: Vivekananda’s Explorations" might provide the esteemed readers with promises afresh for understanding and appreciating Swami Vivekananda’s vibrant humanism.
