Book Description
Back of the Book

The puranas are important mythological texts that trace the history of the universe. The tale of Surya is from the Markandeya Purana. It tells of how Surya lost eight of his rays and also, his unbearable brilliance. The story of Hritadhwaja and Madalasa talks of valiant princes, languishing maidens and wicked demons. This exciting tale unfolds a world of enchantment and adventure.

Krishna is wrongly accused for the theft of the Syamantaka gem and sets out to prove his innocence. This well-loved story is from the Bhagawat Purana.

Surya

Sanjna basked in the warmth of her husband, the radiant Sun God, Surya. But sometimes, the sun’s glare got uncomfortably fierce, could not bear it. She devised the perfect cover for herself-Chhaya, her mirror image! Away from the blazing Surya, the lonely Sanjan pined for her beloved. Eventually, a way had to be found to ensure everyone’s happiness.

The Syamantaka GEM

To the women of Dwarka, Krishna is the most coveted jewel, the husband they yearn for. For most of the men, the Syamantaka, the sun-god’s shining gem, is the most sought-after prise. This is hardly surprising-it is known to regularly bestow a hoard of solid gold on their Prince Satrajit. When the gem goes missing, suspicion falls on Krishna. He must prove his innocence, but danger and upheaval threaten at every turn.

Prince Hritadhwaja

On a command from a heavenly voice, Sage Galava asks Prince Hritadhwaja to help him vanquish the evil asura, Patalaketu. While pursuing Patalaketu, the valiant prince meets Mandalasa, a beautiful Gandharva Princess, who has been taken captive by the asura. The prince slays the asura and rescues Mandalasa. He takes her to his kingdom where the two live a happy life. Until one day, things take a turn for the worse.

This thrilling adventure of a brave prince is from the Markandeya Purana.
