Preface

With great pleasure, we present the new edition of Kriya Sharira (Human Physiology)- Part 1 and Part 2. This new edition of Kriya Sharira (Human Physiology) aligns with the revised curriculum for the 1st year Ayurvedacharya (BAMS) program, which was implemented by the Board of Ayurveda, National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM), New Delhi, beginning with the academic year 2021-2022.

The new curriculum for Kriya Sharira represents a harmonious integration of traditional Ayurvedic knowledge with contemporary physiological science, designed to develop the professional competencies among undergraduate Ayurveda students. This new edition of both part 1 and 2 of the Kriya Sharira series, is based on the updated curriculum prescribed by the NCISM.

Both books of Kriya Sharira are structured into Part A and Part B. Part A of the Kriya Sharira book 1 explains Ayurvedic principles such as Tridosha, Agni, Pachana, Shat- kriyakala, Deha Prakriti and Manas Prakriti. These topics are presented with scientific clarity, enhanced by color illustrations and flowcharts where appropriate. Detailed explanations of concepts like the locations of Tridosha and Ahara Parinamkar Bhava are supported by coloured images, offering students a clearer understanding of these fundamental Ayurvedic principles.

In Part B of the Kriya Sharira book 1, modern physiological topics, including cell physiology, membrane physiology, respiration and endocrinology are elaborated briefly. This section is designed to provide a concise overview of contemporary physiological concepts.

Kriya Sharira (Human Physiology) - Part 1 is crafted to meet the needs of undergraduate and postgraduate students, PhD scholars and educators. We trust that this book will serve as a valuable resource for gaining knowledge and understanding the fundamental aspects of Ayurveda, contributing to its application in clinical practice.
