Platinum signifies prestige and exclusivity. Our unrivalled maestros of Indian classical music are nothing short of priceless jewels in the crown of Indian art and culture.

This exclusive collection of 10 albums presents 10 grand maestros from the Hindustani and Carnatic styles, rendering special pieces from their vast repertoire. Presenting'The Platinum Series’ -a privileged collection featuring specially selected tracks for true connoisseurs of music. This album Presents the grand maestro of Carnatic music, M. Balamurali Krishna.

M. Balamurali Krishna

Mangalampalli Balamurali Krishna, born in 1930 was named Murali Krishna, but was called'Bala' meaning'young boy' by a senior performer. This prefix has ever since become a part of his name. A child prodigy, Balamurali Krishna started giving vocal performances at a very young age. He was however, also very versatile in playing several instruments such as the violin, mridangam, veena and kanjira. Son of a famous flautist, Mangalampalli Pattabhiramayya, Balamurali had his early training in music and talent, Balamurali’s father allowed him to dedicate his life to the art.

Balamurali Krishna was soon a famed vocalist, performing at various venues in the South of India. He is credited with the discovery and innovation of new ragas such as Janasammodini, Omkari and Lavangi among others. He composed a detailed work on the 72 melakarta system at the young age of 14, which earned him great recognition amongst critics and connoisseurs alike.

This well-travelled musician took carnatic music to great heights with his performances in prestigious venues all over the world including USA, Canada, Singapore, France, U.K and Italy.

He is one of the few Carnatic musicians with an astounding range, stretching upto 3 octaves. His in-depth understanding of shruti, laya and tala, has enabled him to collaborate with musicians of the North in rendering some of the finest jugalbandi-s.

He was awarded the prestigious Sangeeta Kalanidhi title by the music academy in 1947. He has also been honoured with several other awards including the coveted Padma Vibhushan by the Indian Government and the Chevalier des arts et des letters by the French Government.

Through history, artistes who have left the most indelible imprints on the sands of time have been the innovators. They have been the ones who have dared to strike their own paths, to explore possibilities, stretch the seems of what is believed to be sacrosanct and holy. They have truly and honestly carved a niche for themselves, created a style that is theirs and for others to follow.

The Platinum series is an exclusive collection that pays tribute to 10 of the grandest maestros of Indian classical music, by presenting them in all their splendour. Each of these maestros have done more than just create sublime music. They have created history with every stroke on their instrument, with every chord in their voice. Each of these stalwarts hold distinguished positions for leaving indelible marks on the map of Indian classical music.

Every album in this series has been carefully selected to present very special tracks that celebrate the greatness of these legends.

I was very happy to find these great Hindu texts of the ancient times. Been a fan of both Mahabhratham and Ramayanam since I was a small boy. Now the whole family can enjoy these very important cultural texts at home.
