Copper kalash (copper vessel), copper plate (trabhaanu), baajat (raised wooden platform for seating statues of deities), 1.25 yds of white cotton cloth, 1.25 yds of red cotton cloth, 1.25 yds of silk cloth for seating yantra, 1 dhoti, 1¼ pounds of rice, 1¼ pounds of wheat, statue of lakshmidevi and satyanarayan, panch paatra (container made from 5 metals), aachamani (copper spoon), 2 strings of Janoi (cotton threads), 5 types of jewels or silver or coins as available, clothes for the deities (cotton string), kumkum, abil (white powder used in the pooja), gulal (red powder used in the pooja), sindur (red lead powder as used in the pooja), all types of herbs (sarva aushadhi), kapoor (camphor), dhoop (arabic gum, sandalwood chips etc. For sweet smelling smoke), agarbatti (loss sticks), flowers for pooja, durvaa (grass), whole turmeric (haldar), naadaachadi (coloured string for wearing in pooja), 1008 leaves of tulsi or 1008 flowers or petals or 1008 rice grains, 3 flower garlands, 2 coconuts, 25 betel leaves, 25 betel nuts, loose money coins, seasonal fruits as available - bananas, grapes, pomegranates, oranges, lemons, sugar cane, dry fruits - dry dates, kernel of coconut, almonds, pistachio, cardamom, sultanas. For erecting a canopy on the baajat, place 4 stems of banana trees or 4 banana leaves or 4 stems of sugar cane or 4 flower garlands in the corners. If none of these are available then 4 garlands of any tree leaves would suffice. On the small stool (baajat) place a red cloth across the whole surface. On the left half of the red cloth place a white cloth, upon which, make an eight cornered shape using the 1¼ pounds of wheat. Place a betel leaf in the middle of the shape, on the leaf place either a statue of ganpati with Riddhi and Siddhi or in the absence of it, a betel nut as symbolic presence of ganpati. On the right side on the red cloth make a mound using the 1¼ pounds of rice, upon which place copper kalash filled with water mixed with Ganga Jal (water from Canga river, if possible) for kalash pooja. Keep ready coconut with swastik imprinted using kumkum to place on the kalash. Make and keep ready a divo using cow ghee. Keep ready 9 betel nuts to do nine planets — nay graha pooja. For food offering (naivedyam) to ganapati - molasses and ghee.

Recipe for Making Shira
(Quantity 7-8 Plates Shira),
Material 2 vati Rava (sooji) ½ Vati Ghee, Badam (Almonds), Manuka (Raisins), Charoli, Keshar (Seffron) Banana.

Procedure:
1. Roast Rava in a utensil in ghee to make it well done i.e. color changes to brownish
2. Add same amount of water as Rava if it is fine
3. Add water 1½ times the quantity of Rava if Rava is coarse.
4. Heat & Stir well till the water evaporates.
5. Add Sugar & Heat again.
6. Add Almond pieces small circular pieces of banana, saffron, elaychi powder etc.
7. Control the heat & Stir well to ensure that the lumps are not formed shira is not too thick nor too thin like paste.

It is usually performed at the beginning of new ventures as well as on the new moon and full moon day particularly the kartik, Vaisakh, Shravan and Chaitra Purnimas and on Sankranti.
