His name is distinctively synonymous with music. Uttam singh is one of the most unique music directors of the Indian film industry. Fresh and soulful, his music has a lyrical quality which speaks out to the listener. Be it sizzling dance numbers of Dil To Pagal Hai or soft devotional prayers of Pinjar, passionate romantic songs of Gadar or Sufiana qalam steeped in highly introspectie lyrical content, the music director weaves a beautiful fabric of melody and rhythm leaving the listener spellbound. High on melody and with a haunting quality, the music permeates the soul of any music lover.

Born in Dehradun, Uttam Singh moved to the entertainment capital Mumbai at the age of 12. However, he started his musical journey at the tender age of 4. Since then there has been no looking back for this genius. He underwent a strict regimen of training under his illustrious father B S Giany, learning the matka, tabla, vocal music, sitar, kathak and the Indian classical violin. He also underwent training in western classical, which enabled him to read and write music.

An amazing human, Uttam Singh's music reflects his roots, the various influences he imbibed along his musical odyssey and his sound training. Little wonder then that in this day of mechanical sounds, the music director creates refreshingly beautiful music and carves it into the being of the listener like a skilled craftsman.

From a student to a musician and finally one of the most sought after music directors, Uttam Singh's journey resonates with the sound of his soul-stirring music. In this album Uttam Singh comes together with Hans Raj Hans to create a masterpiece.

One of the biggest names in Punjabi folk music and Sufiana qalam. Hans Raj Hans has a God gifted style, which he has developed through classical training. At a relatively young age he has already made his mark. He has a unique style of singing, which has been appreciated by a diverse variety of audiences worldwide. His repertoire encompasses the classical style, folk, sufiana and even popular music.

Born in village Shafipur near Jalandhar, he hails from a humble family. His love for music at a very young age evolved into an obsession as he grew up. He drew inspiration form the street singer who frequented the village at dawn singing devotional songs. He is the disciple of the revered Puran Shahkoti Saheb, from whom he received his initial training and who is also responsible for his penchant for Sufism. His guru also affectionately bestowed upon him the name'Hans'.

A true mystic, Hans has performed across the globe to ecstatic audiences. His audiences lap up every song, be it Pop or Sufiana. He has been honoured as the state singer of Punjab on two occasions. Highly educated on the subject of Sufism, Hans Raj Hans is also a visiting professor at the state University of San Jose in U.S.A.

In this album Hans Raj Hans comes together with Uttam Singh and bares his soul as he sings the poetry of some of the greatest Sufi saints in his inimitable style.

This album has made me travel back in time a I have gone back to my roots. After years I have sung Sufiana qalam and this album is very close to my heart."Hans Raj Hans”.

While making this album I went back to the 1970s because that was the golden period of film music. Everyone used to record together live and now after 18 years we have recorded live. The album has refreshed my old memories period of that era."Uttam Singh”.
