About the CD

When addressing the concerns of connoisseurs of Hindustani music about whether its tradition of excellence would continue, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, Stalwart of Khayal Signing said of Rashid Khan there is not at least one person in sight who is an assurance for the future of Indian Vocal Music.

Over the years Rashid Khan has emerged as one of the most revered artistes in the modern era of North Indian classical music. He is one of the few contemporary vocalists whose performances capture the rare quality of tasir the indescribable ability to create a genuine impact on listeners.

Like many of the great vocalists before him Rashid Khan has always been prepared to incorporate into his renditions the best from other gharanas.

The performances captured in this album begins with a short alaap which outlines the key melodic phrases of malkauns a majestic pentonic late night raag. According to ancient texts raag Malukauns is one of the six original Indian ragas and belongs to the Bhairavi thaat. The main Khayal (or Bara khayal) is Tu Hain Malik Mera. The composition is set to rhythmic cycle of twelve beats called Ektaal and the underlying meaning of the composition is deeply devotion. It means you are my god, my Guru, my everything, the sole purpose of my existence.

Rashid Khan goes on to sing thee other compositions in the same raga expressing a soulfulness which is enhanced by the depth of his rich and sonorous voice. Aaj more ghar aaye Balma (track 3) Expresses the delight of a wife lover has returned home.

Rashind Khan has been accompanied by Yogesh Shamsi on the tabla and Mehmood Dhaulpuri on the harmonium.

Testimonials
I received the statue today, and it is beautiful! Worth the wait! Thank you so much, blessings, Kimberly.

I received the Green Tara Thangka described below right on schedule. Thank you a million times for that. My teacher loved it and was extremely moved by it. Although I have seen a lot of Green Tara thangkas, and have looked at other Green Tara Thangkas you offer and found them all to be wonderful, the one I purchased is by far the most beautiful I have ever seen -- or at least it is the one that most speaks to me.
John, USA
Your website store is a really great place to find the most wonderful books and artifacts from beautiful India. I have been traveling to India over the last 4 years and spend 3 months there each time staying with two Bengali families that I have adopted and they have taken me in with love and generosity. I love India. Thanks for doing the business that you do. I am an artist and, well, I got through I think the first 6 pages of the book store on your site and ordered almost 500 dollars in books... I'm in trouble so I don't go there too often.. haha.. Hari Om and Hare Krishna and Jai.. Thanks a lot for doing what you do.. Great !
