Bhairavi is one of the ten Mahavidyas. She is brilliant like the rising sun, has three eyes and wears a jeweled crown and various ornaments. She has four arms in two of them she holds a rosary and a book and with the other two she makes the gestures of assurance and conferring boons. She has facets that assert her cosmic importance, but she is a goddess specifically associated with destructive energy. It is also believed that a woman who gains an attributeless state in Sadhna comes back as a celestial Bhairavi or Yogini.
In appreciating the form and figure, one overlooks the fierce nature of the goddess. Contrary to Madhubani aesthetics that abhor empty spaces, the background is bare. It helps not to distract the viewers attention from the firm line and brilliant colours. The foreground has corresponding yantra for her devotees to meditate upon.
