The Luminescent Brow Of Lord Ganesha

$45
A fabric-based watercolour such as this one would be a cheerful addition to your space. On a stretch of pure homegrown cotton is painted the vibrant image of the baala-deva (child-deity) Lord Ganesha. As the adorable young son of Shiva-Parvati, Ganesha is beloved of a wide number of devotees. In this watercolour, He is seated on a short pedestal with a leg folded under Him and the other upon a cushion, right next to which is His vahana (steed) the mouse. His pale ivory complexion, set off by a solemn composure of countenance, makes for a pleasing contrast to the vibrant green of the solid-coloured background.

The prince of paraloka (otherworldly realm or heaven) is dressed in silk and jewels aplenty. A roseate gold dhoti with bootidar angavastram and a studded crown on His head, in addition to the necklaces and bracelets and anklets on His person. The laddoo that He cradles in His anterior left hand (He is chaturbhujadhari, one possessed of four arms) is an integral part of His iconography, His love for those Indian sweetmeats a symbol of His childlike innocence and wisdom. Note the bare, minimalistic aureole that serves to frame the stately central Ganesha figure.
