Soma or Chandra is a planet, cool in essence. Soma, according to the Vedic hymns, is the god who "represents and animates the juice of the soma plant", the qualities of which are often extolled in the hymns. Soma was the son of Atri, Brahma's son. Because Soma symbolizes sexual energy, the moon becomes a chalice of sperms. It is the dwelling place of spirits and ancestors. The Moon God rules rain and plants, especially medicinal plants.
