This lady from rural Rajasthan, sits in the confines of her home, engaged in making toys of clay. Even though she is evidently deft in her work, she has a faraway lost look on her face. Indeed, her heart is not in what she is doing. Her Rajasthani connections are expressed in the jewelry she wears, for example the armlets and bangles made of shell.

Her body has a peasant like alluring, buxom healthiness, sculpted and chiselled into fineness by the hardwork it has been subjected to. Her choli (blouse) gives ample view of the deep cleft between her well-spread, slightly sagging yet shapely breasts. She wears a long necklace which comes to rest just near her cleavage, and a choker set with two tiger-claw amulets. Highlighting her beauty are almond shaped eyes, thin lips pursed together, and the sharp featured face. Coils of hair fall down the side of her face, adding much to her charm.

The artist has successfully managed to create an almost jail-like surrounding atmosphere confining her, enhanced in no small measure by the barred windows. The toys she sculpts are not only potential sources of delight, but also act as bridges between the worlds of fantasy and reality. But life is nothing if not ironical. Indeed, the very hands that provide means for creating joy, remain deprived of the same.
