A ceremonial procession is in progress with a palanquin being ferried on the shoulders of four sturdy, mustached men carrying ceremonial sticks. Inside the ornately decorated palanquin can be seen a delicate and bashful new bride, wrapped within herself with modesty. In most Indian traditions, marriage involves several ceremonies and festivities, at the end of which the bride goes to her home in an elaborate procession. This painting shows a part of the above festivities.

The special characteristic of this painting is that all available space is densely packed with peacock pairs, creepers, leaves, flowers and other vegetative motifs, all symbolic of fertility, and very apt for such a painting related with the ceremony of marriage. All in all, it is a joyous picture depicting a rite of passage.
