Wine and Women have long been a part of Indian art scene. Art in turn treads on the path of reality. Harems have been part of Indian regalia and thus depiction of the two exotic ingredients of erotica are a common sight. As such, wine and women together have very often themes of great works of art.

The batik work here is in pure and basic colours depicting the erotic flavour of woman and the intoxicating one of wine. A Rajput chieftain, wearing a knee - length robe and a dhoti, enjoys the company of the woman, together with goblets of wine. He sports a beard and a moustache and his turban - a swirling mass of entwined cloth, reaches back to his neck. The woman, giving him the pleasure of her company, is dressed in a short choli and tight trousers. A white odhini covers her head entirely. She holds the wine casket in one hand and a goblet in the other. There is a languid expression in her eyes as she offers him some more wine.

The artist has deployed simple draughtsmanship and primary colours to retain the folk - like simplicity in the batik. The background is turmeric yellow, showing the multi-coloured crackle to its best effect.
