Lakshmi is the consort of Lord Vishnu. It is commonly beloved that she was born from the sea of milk when it was churned for ambrosia. When Vishnu saw her, he was so enraptured that he took her as his consort. She is worshipped as the mother of the world.

Sitting on a lotus seat, in lalitasana, Lakshmi has a golden complexion. Dressed in riches, she embodies auspiciousness, prosperity and abundance. She wears a red saree, that symbolizes energy and a green blouse suggesting prosperity. In two hands she holds padma. Padma or lotus symbolizes water and creation. It has much importance in Hindu and Buddhist pantheon. It symbolizes self-creation. The padma on the lotus pedestal, on which Lakshmi sits is indicative of divinity. The other two hands are in abhaya mudra and Varada mudra respectively. The former is the protection assuring posture of the hand and the latter hand post confers grace on boon. From her hands flow coins and in her lap is an auspicious pot, also overflowing with coins.

In this batik work, the colours are juxtaposed in such a manner that they blend and clash at the same time. The burgundy background is extremely attractive and rich. The yellow of the lotus, the greens and white stand out and the red of the saree flows into the background without much impact
