The five Dhyani Buddhas are:
Ratnasambhava
Amitabha
Amoghasiddhi
Akshobhya
Vairochana
Here at the center sits the historical Buddha, displaying the bhumisparsha mudra.
Going anticlockwise, the Dhyani Buddhas are:
Amoghasiddhi making the abhaya mudra. By meditating on him, the delusion of jealousy is transformed into the wisdom of accomplishment.
Vairochana. He displays the dharmachakra mudra, and helps mortal beings overcome the delusion of ignorance by transforming it into the wisdom of reality.
Just above him sits Amitabha, better known as the Buddha of longevity. He makes the dhyana mudra. By meditating on him, the delusion of attachment becomes the wisdom of discernment. The dhyana mudra helps in achieving this transformation.
Akshobhya in the bhumisparsha mudra. It is believed that by meditating on this deity the human imperfection of anger can be transformed into mirror-like wisdom.
Finally to the right of the central figure is shown Ratnasambhava displaying the varada mudra. Under his spiritual guidance, the delusion of pride becomes the wisdom of sameness. The Varada mudra is the key to this transformation.
Fully bathed in 24 karat gold, this masterwork from the skilled hands of a self-effacing, unsung monk-artist, is not only iconographically correct, but also presents before the viewer an artwork loaded with spiritual essence, facilitating meditation on the most significant group of Buddhas, laying down in the process, the path to total wisdom, at every step of which we are able to transform one negative trait, into a positive attribute.
