She is portrayed here in the form of Simhavahini. In this manifestation, Durga is benign as well as belligerent. She is seated on a ferocious lion. In her hands, she holds the weapons given to her by various gods who created her. The right hand, however, is held in a gesture of boon bestowing. This image is very popular in the whole of north India and night long prayers (jagaratras) are held in temples or in homes by devotees, where devotional songs are sung in her praise.
The red, green and yellow colours have been used in all their vibrancy. The white halo is the only hue to deviate from the brilliance of colours. Firm black outline encloses the colours within, in fact, enhancing the sharp effect. The colours emanate the energy, the goddess is associated with.
