Paintings such as this are the visual record of a culture, the warm sensuous humanism of Vaishnavism, which found expression in poetry and ultimately in paintings of utmost delicacy and beauty. What the words cannot express is sometimes conveyed in paintings through space enclosed in line and dabbed in colours.

The sensual imagery of Krishna and Radha is a foil for the motion of transcendental absorption which is the underlying idea of these images. Radha, who was, till then, being pampered by her old maid, finds Krishna at her feet. With her head bent and eyes looking sideways, she shyly lets Krishna caress her feet. The old maid leaves as Krishna takes over. Radha has her head and shoulders covered in a thick shawl, that indicates that it is end of autumn and there is chill in the air. Krishna has put a garland of white flowers in her neck. In a very erotic act, Krishna takes hold of her foot and starts caressing it pretending to wash it in the metal basin. Krishna himself is dressed in yellow clothes from head to toe. His turban is also of the same colour decorated with a plume. His features are sharp, with lotus shaped eyes and a straight nose.

What is striking about this painting is that all the faces are shown in profile and the figures are not cluttered with too many colours in respect of clothes and accessories. A typical asymmetrical feature is the architecture on one side of the painting and nature on the other, providing variety.
