The indigenous Rajput culture produced exuberant, vibrantly colored, boldly patterned illustrations of Hindu myths and epics. Hindu mythology is in fact, more than a mythology - it is a living religion.

Ganesha, lord of the ganas, is the most universally adored of all the Hindu gods and his image is found in practically every part of India. Here Ganesha is seated on a golden stone studded throne, which, according to Ganesha - Purana, was presented by his mother Parvati. He wears a stone encrusted, elaborate crown the karanda-mukut. On his forehead is the trident head, which represents, his three-fold power: love, wisdom and action. Necklaces and garlands cover most of his upper body. The trunk falls straight and then turns towards the left. The extra arms emerge from the shoulders and hold an axe in one and the lotus in another hand. Lotus is a symbol of Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity. The front hand is raised in a gesture of blessing and the other is holding a bowl of modaks, a sweetmeat associated with Ganesha.

The artist has cluttered the foreground trying to depict everything associated with the god - the auspicious pots, a bowl of fruits and a larger one of modaks, books with a prayer of invocation etc. Ganesha the ' remover of obstacles' is also the 'patron of letters' and functioned as a scribe for the Mahabharata.

Mouse, the vehicle of Ganesha, is proportionally small and inconspicuous as the colors of the mouse merges with that of the floor, but this fact does not diminish its importance in any way.

The artist has show a variety of things in the background with the help of two arched windows - one is closed with floral engravings on it and the other opens to a landscape. In a small pictorial space, the artist has fit in foliage a pond, distant trees and a skyline with attractive clouds, together with a sunset. He has made use of every possible color and floral pattern, be it for the floor, the walls or the windows. The artist has shown his flair not only in the iconic representation but in other artistic areas as well.
